Current collection - Technical information

Carbon is the material the best adapted to current collection:

Self-lubricating:

  • Greasing cut down or eliminated.
  • Maintenance cost reduced.

Friction behaviour:

  • The deposit of a patina polishes contact surfaces, which reduce the wear of the conductor.
  • Protects the rubbing faces against oxidation.
  • Life of the overhead catenary multiplied by 5 up to 10.

Very low sparking:

  • Reduced arcing.
  • No burn or spark damage.
  • Reduced R.F.interference.

Carbon material has resistance to high temperatures, thermal shocks and chemical attack.

Range of products

Our products are adapted to various applications from high speed (TGV) to high power (high current), metro and tramways, pantograph strips and third rail shoes:
  • Amorphous carbon grades will solve all classical current collection problems
  • Metal impregnation grades will be used for heavy-duty applications
  • The possibility to equip strips with a failure and crack detection system to prevent possible damages during operation.
  • Pantograph strips can be mounted or brazed on steel sheath or glued on aluminium sheath.
